Can I use any type of water?

They will tolerate chlorine, but it slows down their progress considerably. You can keep a jar of either drinking water (salt free), or rain water under the sink. Submerge plants in jar once a week. There is no need to change the water more than once a month. If you have a water softener, use water from the bypass tap, as plants do not like salt.
